2. A student must achieve a minimum nursing cumulative grade point average of 2.0 for graduation.

3. A student will receive a summary of academic progress (a grade report) at the end of each semester.

4. When a student’s nursing class grade is below 2.0 (letter grade C) at mid-semester, or when a student’s progress in the clinical laboratory fails to meet the expected performance criteria, the involved faculty member shall notify the Course Coordinator. The Course Coordinator shall give a written academic warning to the student, with a copy to the student’s Academic Advisor and the Associate Director. A copy of this academic warning will be placed in the student’s file.

5. A student will receive a grade of “Pass or Fail” for the clinical laboratory component in all nursing courses. Criteria for grading the clinical component are defined on the Clinical Performance Assessment.

6. A student receiving a grade of fail in the clinical component of any nursing course will fail that course.

7. A student returning to full time status will resume the academic standing in effect during his/her last enrolled semester.

8. A student may repeat a failed nursing course one time.

9. A student must achieve a minimum grade of C in each general education course to receive credit in transfer.

10. Should a student withdraw from a nursing course or the program prior to completion of all course requirements, the academic transcript will reflect withdraw-passing, or withdraw failing for the enrolled course(s).

11. All general education courses must be taken prior to or during the semester indicated on the curriculum plan. A student wishing to alter the curriculum plan must submit the request for an alteration in writing to his/her academic advisor. The academic advisor will submit the student’s written request along with his/her recommendation(s) to Associate Director for a final decision. Any deviation from the Curriculum plan without prior approval of the Associate Director may result in administration action. (*) Any deviation from the curriculum plan will require written permission of the Associate Director in advance.

12. Faculty reserve the right to recommend to the Associate Director that a student withdraw, or be dismissed from the School, or be placed on warning, if the student’s performance, attendance and / or conduct does not meet the standards of the School. (**)

* All general education courses must be taken at a regionally accredited college or university.

Honors

Upon graduation, students attaining a cumulative nursing point average of 3.5 - 3.69 will receive the "Honors" designation; students attaining a cummulative nursing point average of 3.7 - 4.0 will receive the 'High Honors' designation.

In order to qualify for the President's Award, the highest scholastic average, a student must attend the School for two (2) complete academic years.

Academic Warning

Criteria for Warning:

Theory: A student whose nursing theory grade is below 2.0 (letter grade "C") at mid-semester will be placed on academic warning.

Clinical: A student who is not meeting clinical performance criteria will be placed on academic warning.

The Course Coordinator shall give written notification of the academic warning to the student, the student's Academic Advisor, and the Associate Director. A copy of the academic warning is placed in the student's file.

Criteria for Warning Removal

Theory: If the student's nursing theory grade is 2.0 or above at the end of the semester, the warning status will be removed.

Clinical: If the student's clinical performance meets the clinical objectives at the end of the semester, the warning status will be removed.

The Course Coordinator shall give written notification of academic warning removal to the student, the student's Academic Advisor, and the Associate Director. A copy of this academic warning removal is placed in the student's file.

Student Dismissal

The School may dismiss, at any time, a student, whose academic standing is not in compliance with the Scholastic Standards Policy. In most cases, students who are dismissed for academic reasons, have previously been warned by the Course Coordinator.

Dismissal for other academic reasons may occur without prior warning. The decision to dismiss a student for other than academic reasons is made by the Director of the School, after consultation with referring faculty, and discussion with the involved student.

The student transcript will reflect academic or non-academic dismissal.

Dismissal for other than academic reasons include but are not limited to:


  • cheating on exams;
  • plagiarism (using the work of others as your own);
  • breach of patient confidentiality;
  • concealment of errors made during clinical assignments;
  • illicit use, possession, or distribution of drugs or alcohol on campus; possession of weapons on campus; and/or
  • absence from the School for five (5) consecutive days without notification.

Grade Reports

At the end of each semester, a report of the grades the student has achieved in the classes in the nursing major taken for that semester will be mailed to the student. Included in this report are a semester summary of grades, a semester nursing grade point average, quality points, and a cumulative nursing grade point average for all courses taken at the Central Maine Medical Center College of Nursing and Health Professions. Courses taken off campus, and transferred to this School, are not computed into the semester grade point average, or the cumulative grade point average.

Payment of School Fees

All School fees must be paid in full each semester. Students may not begin any semester until all fees for that semester have been paid in full. (This includes any late fee charges.) No student will be admitted to any class until satisfactory arrangements have been made with the School's Financial Aid Director.

A bill will be mailed to each student prior to the beginning of each semester. On each bill, the date the payment is due to be paid in full is indicated.

A late fee of twenty dollars ($20) will be charged for all bills not paid by the due date indicated on the student's bill.

Transportation

Students are responsible for providing their own transportation to and from the School and/or to off-campus assigned clinical agencies and educational institutions.

Some clinical agencies utilized by the School are located outside the Lewiston/Auburn area, within a fifty-mile radius. Generally, students can arrange to carpool.


Student Government

The Central Maine Medical Center College of Nursing and Health Professions's Nursing Student Communication Council's chief function is to enhance communication between students, as well as between students and the School's administration and faculty. It is composed of the officers of each class and three student representatives; one living on campus and two living off campus (one from each class). The Associate Director attends the meetings as ex-officio to answer questions, relay data, etc.

Visitors

Visitors are welcome on our campus, but are asked to observe the office hours of the administrative offices in order to obtain a guide for a campus tour. Administrative offices are open 8:30 a.m.Ñ5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Applicants to the School, as well as individuals interested in applying to the School, are welcome to visit on a weekday, when school is in session. This provides the individual an opportunity to observe classes and campus laboratory, and to talk with faculty members and students. Attendance

The Central Maine Medical Center College of Nursing and Health Professions is founded upon a commitment to learning on the part of both faculty and students.

When students accept membership in the educational community of this School of Nursing, students also accept responsibility and accountability to be present for all required teaching/learning activities.

  1. All students must meet course and program objectives satisfactorily.
  2. Each student is expected to arrange employment and personal activities to avoid conflict with course schedule.
  3. Attendance at all teaching/learning activities is monitored.
  4. All absences must be reported to the School; any absence not reported may result in administrative action.
  5. A student is allowed the following absences:
    - Semester I (NUR101) – 9 hours
    - Semester II (NUR102) – 12 hours
    - Semester III (NUR201) – 13.5 hours
    - Semester IV (NUR 202) – 16 hours
  6. All absences from assigned clinical laboratory experience must be made up and provide a similar experience.
  7. When a student is absent from a clinical experience, the time will be made up on an individual basis at the discretion of the clinical facility and faculty.
  8. The Associate Director must be notified of any changes in clinical laboratory schedules.
  9. If a student’s absences exceed the scheduled make-up hours, the Associate Director will review the situation on an individual basis and make recommendations to the Director of the School.
  10. Students unable to meet required program attendance requirements will be terminated from the program.

Challenge Exams for General Education Courses
Excelsior College and CLEP Examinations


Applicants or students who wish to receive academic credit for knowledge and skills acquired prior to attending this School have the opportunity to do so through the College Level Examination Program (CLEP), or Excelsior's College challenge examinations.

The CLEP or Excelsior's College examinations for courses that are required by this School's curriculum may be taken at an authorized testing center of the student's choice.

The following challenge examinations for courses that are required by this School's curriculum are available:

The scores achieved on the above challenge examinations must meet the score required by Central Maine Medical Center College of Nursing and Health Professions. Passing scores may be obtained from the Registrar's office.

Advanced Placement Program of The College Board

Central Maine Medical Center College of Nursing and Health Professions participates in the Advanced Placement Program of The College Board to provide academic credit for exceptionally well prepared students. Students who are interested should take the College Board Advanced Placement Tests and have the results submitted to Central Maine Medical Center College of Nursing and Health Professions for evaluation. Students scoring 3, 4, or 5 on these examinations typically receive credit.

All general education courses must be taken prior to, or during, the semester indicated on this School's curriculum plan.

Students must achieve a minimum grade of "C" in each required general education course to be eligible for graduation.

Transfer of Credits to Another Institution

Upon receipt of a dated, written request from a student, the Registrar will send an official copy of the student's transcript to any college or agency named. The first transcript will be issued free of charge. Subsequent transcripts will be issued at a fee of $3.00 for each copy.

The amount of transfer credit granted for courses completed at this School is determined entirely by the institution to which the student is requesting credit by transfer. Knowledge of the transfer policy of the institution to which the student is applying for transfer credit is helpful.

A list of colleges/universities with whom this School has a signed agreement regarding transfer credit and direct admission may be obtained from the Registrar.

Transfer of General Education Course Credits to CMMC School of Nursing

Twenty-seven (27) credits earned at other regionally accredited colleges or universities may be transferred to Central Maine Medical Center College of Nursing and Health Professions. Only those courses equivalent to the general education courses listed on this School's curriculum plan will be considered for transfer credit.

To ensure transferability of credits, applicants/students should contact the School's Registrar to have general education course(s) approved prior to registering for the course(s).

To transfer general education course credits to Central Maine Medical Center College of Nursing and Health Professions, the student must:

  • request an official transcript be mailed directly from the institution where the credit(s) was/were earned, to the Registrar's office:
  • request an official course description from the year the credit(s) was/were actually earned;
  • receive a minimum grade of "C" in the course.

Transcript Requests

Upon receipt of a dated, written request from a student, the Registrar will send an official copy of the studnt's transcript to any college or agency named. Transcripts will be issued at a fee of $5.00 for each copy. Rush copies (within two business days) will be issued at a fee of $10.00.

The amount of transfer credit granted for courses completed at this School is determined entiely by the institution to which the student is requesting credit by transfer. Knowledge of the transfer policy of the institution to which the student is applying for transfer credit is helpful.

Transcripts may be:

  • given directly to the individual
  • mailed directly to the person or institution for which the transcript is requested.

Persons with outstanding financial obligations to the School will not be provided transcripts until such obligations are met.
