NUR 101 Fundamentals in Nursing Credits: 8
Fundamentals of nursing practice are taught through theory, skills and experience. The nursing process is introduced as the organizing framework for the delivery of care. The student is introduced to the concepts of assessment, communication, professional behavior and meeting the needs of patients across the lifespan.

NUR 102 Nursing Care Across the Lifespan I
Credits: 10
This course reinforces the nursing process as the organizing framework for the delivery of care. The holistic healthcare needs of individuals are explored along with common health problems encountered in each age group. Concepts of teaching and learning and managing care are introduced. Students continue to acquire knowledge through theory, skills and experience.

NUR 201 Nursing Care Across the Lifespan II
Credits: 10
This course emphasizes the utilization of the nursing process for the delivery of care. The holistic healthcare needs of individuals continue to be explored along with common health problems encountered in each age group. Emphasis is placed on two areas of increasing knowledge; the childbearing family and behavioral health. The focus of this course is on clinical decision-making and caring interventions.
Prerequisites: NUR 102, BIO 112; PSY 102, ENG 110.

NUR 202 Nursing Care Across the Lifespan III
Credits: 11
This course promotes integration of the nursing process for the delivery of care. The holistic healthcare needs of individuals continue to be explored along with common health problems encountered in each age group. The focus of this course is the concept of collaboration and role transition from student to graduate.
Prerequisites: NUR 201, PHM 101, BIO 113

PHM 101 Pharmacology Fundamentals
Credits: 3
This course will focus on the principles of pharmacology and the major drug classifications in relation to the treatment of health problems throughout the lifespan. Emphasis will be placed on the knowledge and interventions needed to maximize therapeutic effects and prevent or minimize adverse effects of medications
BIO 111 Anatomy & Physiology I
Credits: 4
This lecture and laboratory course will introduce the student to the study of the human body. Students will study the chemical processes within the body; the structure, function, reproduction of human cells and genetics; and tissue level of organization. Integumentary and skeletal systems will be discussed.

BIO 112 Anatomy & Physiology II
Credits: 4
This lecture and laboratory course focuses on the structure and function of the human body and the body’s reaction to physiological stress. This course, when taken concurrently with, or following, BIO 111 Anatomy & Physiology I, will provide the student with a basic understanding and working knowledge of the human body. Students will study the following body systems: muscular, nervous, sensory-motor, circulatory, respiratory, digestive, urinary, endocrine, and reproductive.

BIO 113 Microbiology
Credits: 4
This course introduces the structure, function, and nutrition of microorganisms, and the principles of immunology. Laboratory emphasis is on basic techniques for identification of microorganisms.

PSY 101 Introduction to Psychology
Credits: 3
This course surveys concepts related to human behavior. Special emphasis will be on methods of inquiry, physiological foundations of behavior, sensation and perception, motivation, emotions, learning, thinking, and problem solving.

PSY 102 Developmental Psychology
Credits: 3
This course introduces the student to principles of human growth and development. A holistic approach is used to explore sequences and patterns of physical, psychological, cognitive, and social characteristics of the individual from birth to death.

ENG 101 College Writing
Credits: 3
This is a course which develops the student’s ability to write clearly and effectively. Practice in expository writing will be the focus.

ENG 101 Introduction to Literature
Credits: 3
This course introduces students to genres of fiction, drama, and poetry. By studying important works by writers of culturally diverse backgrounds, students gain experience in reading, analyzing, interpreting, and writing about literature. This course establishes connections between literature and other areas of arts and communications.

ELE 101 Elective
Credits: 3
This course enables the student to identify the continuing evolution of humankind in terms of ideas, thoughts and relationships that significantly impact culture and civilization. The language, philosophy, fine arts, history, global issues, and technology branches of learning are concerned with this sociocultural evolution.
