Clark F. Miller School of Radiologic Technology
The
Clark F. Miller School of Radiologic Technology at the Central Maine Medical
Center College of Nursing and Health Professions offers a challenging and
rewarding career educational opportunity. The College’s 22-month associate of applied science degree program
provides instruction and clinical experience through a blend of classroom and
clinical education.
The program begins in
August each year. Students attend the
College on a full-time basis, attending classes an average of two days a week
and training in a clinical environment three days a week in the medical imaging
departments at Central Maine Medical Center and affiliated hospitals. Students
complete clinical training in all areas of diagnostic radiography and are
introduced to medical imaging specialties. Program graduates are eligible to
take the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists examination and obtain
Maine State Licensing.
Radiologic
technology combines advanced technology and human compassion.
Radiologic technologists use their knowledge of physics, human anatomy,
and physiology to create permanent medical images. Through a blend of
classroom and clinical training, students learn radiographic equipment
operation, patient positioning, radiation safety, and patient care.
The
School of Radiologic Technology was founded in 1949 by Clark F. Miller,
M.D. It was the first formal training program for x-ray students in the
state of Maine. The school, its instructors, and its graduates maintain
a leadership role in the education of radiologic technologists.
